For Ann
Most of these pictures originate from a variety of bespoke calendars that I designed,
produced and photographed in my studios and on locations from Singapore in the east to
the Bahamas and Florida in the west, with the middle ground taken up by Rhodes,
Sardinia, Cyprus and other Mediterranean islands. South of the equator, one could mention parts of Kenya
and splendid cross-border views of peaks Mawenzi and Kibo/Uhuru, sometimes called Mt Kilimanjaro.
(Never did discover what that old gattopardo was doing up there; perhaps he became confused
and thought himself on Etna. Such things come, with age.)
I'd like to thank those girls who roamed with me, braving hunger, thirst, seawater and
prickly heat, sun, Masai Mara tent-spiders, volcanos in Lanzarote, luxury and the mosquito bite,
all in the brutal quest for beauty.
Shot mainly on Kodachrome 64 film that always seemed to travel well, despite the best
efforts of heat, humidity, airport scanners and lack of refrigeration to cause linked or even independent
disaster. I have since enjoyed converting many of the original colour photographs into
black and white images that have provided new life and meaning as fine art prints (see Sales).
Alas, none of my fashion negatives or transparencies survived the move from Britain; somewhat unfortunate, really,
as fashion photography represented the early and larger part of my oeuvre. C'est la vie.
